We are no stranger to financial hurdles and this path has many at every corner. Scholarship is another core pillar here at Black Girl White Coat. We make it our mission to create opportunities for funding as well as bringing awareness to other organizations offering scholarships and grants.

Black Girl White Coat's Annual 
Representation Matters Scholarship

Black Girl White Coat is excited to reintroduce our annual Representation Matters Student Scholarship! We are proud to offer a total of $10,000 in scholarships to 15 women pursuing careers in healthcare.

Application Opens: December 15, 2024

Application Deadline: January 12, 2025

Letter of Support Deadline: January 12, 2025

Student Scholarship

ten students awarded $500 each

Eligibility:

  1. Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, a master’s program, completing post-baccalaureate courses, or preparing to matriculate into a pre-health or professional healthcare program in the U.S. or U.S. territories.

  2. Field of study: Limited to individuals pursuing careers in one of the healthcare fields listed in the application. 

  3. Pre-professional students only: This scholarship is for students preparing to enter healthcare professional school (medical, dental, nursing, etc.). If you are already enrolled in a professional program (e.g., medical school, nursing school), you are not eligible.

  4. Identity: Must self-identify as a Black/African American or Hispanic/Latinx woman.

  5. Supporting documentation: Applicants must provide supporting documentation to show their academic progress (e.g., MCAT registration, professional school applications, unofficial transcripts, class schedule, etc.) with the applicant's name clearly visible.

  6. Social media: Must be following Black Girl White Coat on Instagram. 

Student Scholarship - Mentorship Program 

two students awarded $1000 each

Eligibility:

Must meet all criteria listed for Student Scholarship

PLUS 

​

1. Mentee status: Must be an active or past participant in the BGWC Mentorship Program.

2. Letter of support: Must have your BGWC mentor submit a letter of support to Scholarship@BlackGirlWhiteCoat.org by January 12, 2025.​

Medical Student Scholarship

three students awarded $1000 each

​Eligibility: 

  1. Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in medical school in the United States or its territories.

  2. Identity: Must self-identify as a Black/African American and/or Hispanic/Latinx woman.

  3. CV/Resume Submission: Must submit a current CV or resume to Scholarship@BlackGirlWhiteCoat.org.

  4. Letter of Support: Must have a letter of support submitted on your behalf to Scholarship@BlackGirlWhiteCoat.org by January 12, 2025. 

  5. Social Media: Must be following Black Girl White Coat on Instagram.

The Stride Scholarship

Q: Will I receive an email confirmation after submitting my application?
A: No, we do not send receipt confirmation emails upon submission.

 

Q: Can I apply for a medical student scholarship if I attend a Caribbean medical school or a school outside of the United States?
A: No, eligibility is limited to students enrolled in medical school in the United States or its territories (including American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

 

Q: If I have received a BGWC scholarship in the past, can I apply again?
A: Yes, you are welcome to apply for a BGWC scholarship again, even if you have received one in the past.

 

Q: Can I apply for more than one type of scholarship at the same time?
A: Yes, you can apply for multiple scholarships and be considered for all awards, provided you meet the eligibility criteria for each.

 

Q: If I graduated from medical school a few months ago, can I still apply for the medical student scholarships?
A: No, you must be currently enrolled in medical school at the time of application to be eligible for the medical student scholarships.

 

Q: If I am a fellow, can I apply for a scholarship that is only available to residents?
A: No, fellowships are not eligible for scholarships designated specifically for residents.
